Type(s): Including animal figured in pl. 10, fig. 3 of the original publication; holotype ireported as ZSM 2369/0, now lost, by Hoogmoed and Gruber, 1983, Spixiana, München, Suppl., 9: 368–369, this confirmed by Glaw and Franzen, 2006, Spixiana, München, 29: 169. The resport by Duellman, 1977, Das Tierreich, 95: 104, of the lost type as ZSM 2531/0 is in error. Pimenta, Faivovich, and Pombal, 2007, Zootaxa, 1441: 41, designated MNRJ 38098 as neotype. Type locality: "Provincia Bahiae", Brazil. Neotype from "Fazenda Pedra Formosa (13°57′S, 39°27′W), Municipality of Ibirapitanga, State of Bahia, Brazil".

Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 151: 1–23. Hoogmoed and Gruber, 1983, Spixiana, München, Suppl., 9: 369, noted that the lost holotype of this species may have been confused with the types of Hyla nebulosa Spix due to similar habitus. Pimenta, Faivovich, and Pombal, 2007, Zootaxa, 1441: 35–49, discussed this taxon, designated a neotype, and provided an account. Mira-Mendes, Marciano, Ruas, Oliveira, and Solé, 2013, Zootaxa, 3647: 499–500, reported on the advertisement call. Camurugi, Mercês, Nunes, and Juncá, 2013, Zootaxa, 3686: 497–499, reported on larval morphology. Freitas, Abegg, Dias, and Moraes, 2018, Herpetol.
