Feio and Caramaschi, 2002, Phyllomedusa, 1: 105-111, reported the species for Minas Gerais, Brazil. In the Phyllodytes luteolus group of Caramaschi, Peixoto, and Rodrigues, 2004, Arq. Mus. Nac., Rio de Janeiro, 62: 185–191, and Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 110. Vrcibradic, Hatano, Rocha, and Van Sluys, 2006, Herpetol. Rev., 37: 489, provided the record for northern Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil. Salles and Silva-Soares, 2010, Herpetol. Notes, 3: 257-258, reported on an introduced population in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Forti, Foratto, Márquez, Pereira, and Toledo, 2018, PeerJ, 6(e4813): 1–19, characterized the advertisement call. Freitas, Abegg, Dias, and Moraes, 2018, Herpetol. Notes, 11: 59–72, provided a record from the Serra da Jibóia, Bahia, Brazil. Ferreira, Mônico, Silva, Lirio, Zocca, Mageski, Tonini, Beard, Duca, and Silva-Soares, 2019, ZooKeys, 857: 152, noted an unnamed species, "Phyllodytes aff. luteolus" in the region of Santa Teresa, Espírito Santo, Brazil.
