Known only from the type locality in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.


In the Scinax rizibilis group according to Andrade and Cardoso, 1987, Rev. Brasil. Zool., 3: 433-440. Subsequently the Scinax rizibilis group was combined into the Scinax catharinae group by Pombal, Bastos, and Haddad, 1995, Naturalia, São Paulo, 20: 213-225. In the Scinax catharinae clade, Scinax catharinae group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 95-96.
