Pipa aspera Müller, 1924, Zool. Anz., 58: 291. Holotype: ZSM 19/1923; lost according to Cannatella, 1985, in Frost (ed.), Amph. Species World: 424, and Glaw and Franzen, 2006, Spixiana, München, 29: 184. AMNH 107864 designated neotype by Trueb and Cannatella, 1986, Herpetologica, 42: 432. Type locality: "Albina (Unterlauf des Maroni), Surinam". Neotype from "Browns Berg Nature Par (near Mazaroni Top), 430 m, Brokopondo District, Surinam, 430 m".

English Names

Albina Surinam Toad (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 96).

Distribution

Known only from three localities in Mabura Hill Forest Reserve, Guyana, seven localities in Suriname and six localities in French Guiana.

Natural Resident: French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname

Lescure and Marty, 2000, Collect. Patrimoines Nat., Paris, 45: 280-281, provided a photo and brief account for French Guiana. Trueb and Massemin, 2001, Amphibia-Reptilia, 22: 33-54, discussed the osteology, relationships, and natural history of this species.
