English Names

Blue-gray Fire-bellied Newt (Fei and Ye, 2016, Amph. China, 1: 403). 

Bluish Grey Fire-bellied Newt (Sparreboom, 2014, Salamanders Old World: 190).

Distribution

Known only from the vicinity of the type locality (Meiguang on Mount Lianhua, Wuhua County, Meizhou, eastern Guangdong, China, ca. 742 m elevation).

The sister taxon of a group composed of Cynops cyanurus, Cynops orphicus, Cynops fudingensis, and Cynops orientalis according to the original publication. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 157, provided a brief account, range map, and photograph. Sparreboom, 2014, Salamanders Old World: 190, reviewed the biology, characteristics, distribution, reproduction, and conservation of the species. Fei and Ye, 2016, Amph. China, 1: 403–405, provided an account, photograph, and range map and noted that this is a member of the Cynops orientalis group. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 437–437, provided a brief account and distribution map.
