The sister taxon of nearby Tylototriton shanorum according to the original publication. In the Tylototriton (Tylototriton) verrucosus species group of Poyarkov, Nguyen, and Arkhipov, 2021, Taprobanica, 10: 4–22, who discussed phylogenetics.
