11 June 2016: Replaced Dryopsophus Fitzinger, 1843, with Ranoidea Tschudi, 1838 (Hylidae). This makes for rather extensive changes in species names in Australia, but, although I generally do not like getting this far out ahead of publication, I do not want the name Dryopsophus to get any traction in the secondary literature. The statement by Duellman, Marion, and Hedges, 2016, Zootaxa, 4104: 37, that Ranoidea is a junior synonym of Litoria and possibly suppressed (the statement is not clear) is in error.

Phylogenet. Evol.: 89–102, who reported on molecular phylogenetics within the family, placement of Nothophryne within it, and who noted substantial cryptic species diversity within the single nominal species as well as substantially increasing the known range.

5 May 2016: Modified the range statements of Amietia desaegeri (Pyxicephalidae), Amietia lubrica, and Amietia wittei, and noted issues of systematics in the species of the Albertine rift, to render this catalog parallel with the study of Larson, Castro, Behangana, and Greenbaum, 2016, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 99: 168–181, who reported on the phylogenetics and taxonomy of species in this region of Africa, identifying 6 unnamed (or likely unnamed) species found in: 1) Kibara Mountains, 1157–1428 m elevation, Katanga Province, Dem. Rhinella marina is restricted to South America east of the Venezuelan and main Andes and Rhinella horribilis is found from South Texas (USA) and southern Sonora south along lowlands to extreme northwestern Venezuela and Chocoan Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Fortunately for those who deal with these things, it seems that all of the introduction world-wide can be documented as originating from within the range of Rhinella marina, not Rhinella horribilis

18 April 2016: This catalogue was brought into line with the study by Duellman, Marion, and Hedges, 2016, Zootaxa, 4104: 1–109, one completely derived from a concatenated dataset of GenBank sequences developed by other studies (the backbone constructed of 2 mtDNA sequences, with several other additional genes added, presumably with a considerable amoung of missing data). (All in all this approach by Duellman is remarkable given his previous statement (Duellman, 2015, Marsupial Frogs: 400): "The deposition of sequences in GenBank provides the scientific community with access to genomic data on more and more species. . . . . Perhaps the most distressing aspect of GenBank is that it gives unscrupulous investigators the opportunity to mine other scientists' hard-gotten data for their own analyses, which the former group of individual publish and on which classifications are based, without these investigators gathering any data of their e.g., Pyron and Wiens, 2011". Given that the bulk of Duellman et al.'s data in this case are derived from work by others, one has to marvel at the charge. Regardless, analysis of these data provided the source of many novel and in some cases unnecessary changes that will irritate others working on the group (e.g., the partitions of Hyla and Pseudacris likely will not last, nor will the recognition of the likely paraphyletic former Hyla bistincta group as Sarcohyla, otherwise treated by other authors as part of the monophyletic Plectrohyla,  as other workers attack the problem). The subfamilies of Hylidae as families (Hylidae, Pelodryadidae, Phyllomedusidae), recognized Acridinae (new), Hylinae (redelimited), Pseudinae (resurrected), Dendropsophinae (new rank), Lophyohylinae (new rank), Scinaxinae (new), Cophomantinae (new rank), and added new genera for the western species of Pseudacris (now Hyliola), Rheohyla (new), Dryophytes (for the predominantly North American clade of Hyla), Colomascirtus named for a subset of former Hyloscirtus, Callimedusa named within Phyllomedusidae and Pelodryadidae divided into two subfamilies, Pelobiinae and Pelodryadinae, one for one fragment of Litoria and the other for Nyctimystes plus a fragment of former Litoria, now Dryopsophus. The paper presents a sweeping revision of the former hylids. The phylogenetic analysis is large, based on maximum-likelihood optimization on static-aligned sequences, which suggests that substantial modifications should be expected. Morphology is included descriptively but as presented is frequently non-diagnostic. Hyla aurata (the type species of Scinax) was apparently placed in Ololygon in error as both Scinax and Ololygon were recognized.

2 April 2016: Added a comment under Pseudotriton ruber (Plethodontidae) to reflect the publication of Folt, Garrison, Guyer, Rodriguez, and Bond, 2016, Mol. Phylogenet. This has big effects on the overall range of Ceratobatrachidae, extending into the Himalayan region of China.
