Brachycephalus tridactylus Garey, Lima, Hartmann, and Haddad, 2012, Herpetologica, 68: 267. Holotype: MZUSP 137957, by original designation. Type locality: "Serra do Morato (25° 04′ 54″ S; 48° 19′ 53″ W; 900-930 m above sea level; datum 5 WGS84), Reserva Natural Salto Morato, Municipality of Guaraqueçaba, state of Paraná, southern Brazil". Latitude and longitude corrected to "25° 08’ 09” S, 48° 17’ 59” W (datum WGS84)" by Bornschein, Belmonte-Lopes, Ribeiro, Maurício, and Pie, 2015, Zootaxa, 4007: 149–150.

Known only from the immediate vicinity of the type locality (Reserva Natural Salto Morato, Municipality of Guaraqueçaba, state of Paraná, southern Brazil, 715 to 1140 m elevation).

The advertisement call and external morphology and coloration were detailed in the original publication. Tentatively assigned to the Brachycephalus pernix group by Ribeiro, Bornschein, Belmonte-Lopes, Firkowski, Morato, and Pie, 2015, PeerJ, 3 (e1011): 1–35. Bornschein, Rollo, Pie, Confetti, and Ribeiro, 2019, Phyllomedusa, 18: 3–12, redescribed the advertisement call. Bornschein, Nadaline, Ribeiro, Sandretti-Silva, Rivas, Guerra, and Teixeira, 2021, PeerJ, 9 (e12687): 1–19, discussed its miniscule range and conservation.
