Pelophryne penrissenensis Matsui, Nishikawa, Eto, and Hossman, 2017, Zool. Sci., Tokyo, 34: 346. Holotype: KUHE 55496, by original designation. Type locality: "on the trail between Batu Panggah and Summit of Gunung Penrissen, Padawan, State of Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo (01°07’21”N, 110°13’43”E, 1035 m a.s.l.)".

Known only from the type locality, Gunung Penrissen, Kuching Division, state of Sarawak, East Malaysia; expected in near adjacent Kalimantan, Indonesia.
