Comment

See Inger, 1966, Fieldiana, Zool., 52: 85 (as Pelophryne brevipes), for synonymy and distribution although this should be used with caution as population from West Malaysia is now Pelophryne ingeri. See brief account (as Pelophryne brevipes) and photo by Manthey and Grossmann, 1997, Amph. Rept. Südostasiens: 41-43, for the Borneo population. Removed from the synonym of Pelophryne brevipes by Inger, 1985, in Frost (ed.), Amph. Species World: 38, where it had been placed by Inger, 1966, Fieldiana, Zool., 52: 85. See comment under Pelophryne brevipes. Das, Jankowski, Makmor, and Haas, 2007, Mitt. Hamburg. Zool. Mus. Inst., 104: 148, provided a brief description. See statement of geographic range, habitat, and conservation status in Chan and Grismer, 2019, BMC Evol. Biol., 19(95): 3, suggested on the basis of sequence divergence between Borneo and Peninsular Malaysia that this binominal represents a species complex (see Pelophryne ingeri, which appears to resolve this–DRF).  Matsui, 2019, Curr. Herpetol., Kyoto, 38: 128–139, discussed the confusing history of the application of this name to populations now known as Pelophryne ingeri and Pelophryne brevipesHaas, Das, Hertwig, Bublies, and Schulz-Schaeffer, 2022, Guide to the Tadpoles of Borneo: 255–257, summarized the knowledge of habitat, reproduction, larval morphology and coloration. Herlambang, Riyanto, Munir, Hamidy, Kimura, Eto, and Mumpuni, 2022, Treubia, 49: 78, reported the species from Bungaran and Serasan Is., Natuna Is., Indonesia.
