Comment

In the Bufo gracilipes group of Tandy and Keith, 1972, in Blair (ed.), Evol. Genus Bufo: 158. See Poynton and Broadley, 1988, Ann. Natal Mus., 29: 477-478, for short account. Channing, 2001, Amph. Cent. S. Afr.: 97, and Channing and Howell, 2006, Amph. E. Afr.: 96-97, provided accounts. M. Cunningham (personal commun.), suggests that this species actually belongs in Poytonophrynus on the basis of it having paired subarticular tubercles, a small distinct tympanum, and lacking a tarsal fold. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 72–73, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map.
