Scinax tropicalia Novaes-e-Fagundes, Araujo-Vieira, Entiauspe, Roberto, Orrico, Solé, Haddad, and Loebmann, 2021, Zootaxa, 4903: 4. Holotype: MZUESC 20440, by original designation. Type locality: "campus of the Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz (UESC), municipality of Ilhéus, state of Bahia, Brazil (datum WGS84; -14.795694°, -39.172645°, about 30 m above sea level [a.s.l.])". Zoobank publication registration: 5ABDA0B2-BC31-47E1-A988-CC3307D5FD71. The species name is a noun in apposition.

Distribution

Disjunct populations in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil, 0 to 600 m elevation: (1) southeastern Bahia (Serra da Jibóia south to Serra Bonita), (2) north-central Ceará (Serra do Baurité and Parque das Trilhas, Guaramiranga), and (3) Alagoas (municipalities of Jaqueira, Lagoa dos Gatos, and the Pedra Talhada Biological Reserve), and (4) Pernambuco (municipalities of Recife, Camarigibe, and São Vicente Ferrer).

In the Scinax ruber clade according to the original publication, where acoustic and morphological characteristics were discussed. Marinho, Novaes-e-Fagundes, Orrico, and Araujo-Vieira, 2021, Zootaxa, 5057: 590–596, reported on larval morphology. Santos, Silva, Dias, Almeida, Ávila, and Roberto, 2021, Cuad. Herpetol., 35: 337–341, provided new records, discussed the range and reported on the advertisement call. In the Scinax granulatus group of Araujo-Vieira, Lourenço, Lacerda, Lyra, Blotto, Ron, Baldo, Pereyra, Suárez-Mayorga, Baêta, Ferreira, Barrio-Amorós, Borteiro, Brandão, Brasileiro, Donnelly, Dubeux, Köhler, Kolenc, Leite, Maciel, Nunes, Orrico, Peloso, Pezzuti, Reichle, Rojas-Runjaic, Silva, Sturaro, Langone, Garcia, Rodrigues, Frost, Wheeler, Grant, Pombal, Haddad, and Faivovich, 2023, S.
