Physalaemus atlanticus Haddad and Sazima, 2004, Zootaxa, 479: 3. Holotype: CFBH 3221, by original designation. Type locality: "Núcleo Picinguaba (23° 23′ S, 44° 50′ W), Parque Estadual da Serra do mar, Municipality of Ubatuba, State of São Paulo, Brazil".

Known only from the Municipality of Ubatuba, on the northern coast of São Paulo state, Brazil, 0–50 m elevation.

In the Physalaemus signifer group according to the original publication and of Nascimento, Caramaschi, and Cruz, 2005, Arq. Mus. Nac., Rio de Janeiro, 63: 308, where larval and adult morphology and advertisement call were described. Weber, Gonzaga, and Carvalho-e-Silva, 2006 "2005", Arq. Mus. Nac., Rio de Janeiro, 63: 680, redescribed the advertisement call.
