Physalaemus deimaticus Sazima and Caramaschi, 1988 "1986", Rev. Biol., Lisboa, 13: 91. Holotype: JJ 6057, by original designation. Type locality: "km 132 da estrada de Vespasiano c Conceição do Mato Dentro, município de Jaboticatubas, Serra Do Cipó, Minas Gerais, Brasil".

Distribution

Known only from the type locality (Serra do Cipó, Minas Gerais, Brazil).

Comment

Very similar to Physalaemus rupestris and not assignable to species group, according to the original publication and Caramaschi, Carcerelli, and Feio, 1991, Herpetologica, 47: 148-151. In the Physalaemus deimaticus group of Nascimento, Caramaschi, and Cruz, 2005, Arq. Mus. Nac., Rio de Janeiro, 63: 309. See comment under Physalaemus erythros. Eterovick and Sazima, 2004, Anf. Serra do Cipó: 103-104, provided a photograph and brief account. In the Physalaemus signifer clade, Physalaemus deimaticus species group, of Lourenço, Targueta, Baldo, Nascimento, Garcia, Andrade, Haddad, and Recco-Pimentel, 2015, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 92: 204–216. Hepp and Pombal, 2020, Zootaxa, 4725: 1–106, discussed this species as part of a genus-wide discussion of bioacoustical traits among the species. Eterovick, Souza, and Sazima, 2020, Anf. Serra do Cipó: 1–292, provided an account, life history information, and an identification scheme for the Serra de Cipó, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
