Leptodactylus cupreus Caramaschi, Feio, and São Pedro, 2008, Zootaxa, 1861: 45. Holotype: MNRJ 47752, by original designation. Type locality: "Lagoa das Bromélias (20°25′S, 43°29′W, 1,227 m above sea level), Parque Estadual da Serra do Brigadeiro, District of Careço, Municipality of Ervália, State of Minas Gerais, Southeastern Brazil".

Distribution

Known from the type locality in the Parque Estadual da Serra do Brigadeiro, District of Careço, Municipality of Ervália as well as in the Ariana Municipality, Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil, 740 and 1227 m elevation, and from 220 km to the northeast in the municipality of Santa Teresa, Espírito Santo, at 680 m elevation. Reported as being in the state of Bahia, Brazil.

Comment

In the Leptodactylus fuscus group and related to the Leptodactylus mystaceus complex according to the original publication where external morphology and advertisement call were detailed. Peres, Simon, Nascimento, and Feio, 2010, Check List, 6: 481–482, provided the record for Espírito Santo, Brazil. Motta, Silva, Feio, and Dergam, 2010, Zootaxa, 2640: 65–68, reported on tadpole morphology, Cassini, Orrico, Dias, Solé, and Haddad, 2013, Zootaxa, 3616: 73–84, reported on phenotypic variation and advertisement call and suggested that this species is a member of the Leptodactylus fuscus group. In the Leptodactylus fuscus species group, Leptodactylus mystaceus complex, of de Sá, Grant, Camargo, Heyer, Ponssa, and Stanley, 2014, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 9(Spec. Issue 1): 1–123, who provided a summary of the relevant literature of this species on p. 28–29 (adult and larval morphology, identification, advertisement call, and range), and stated that the species occurs in Bahia, Brazil, without mentioning a specific locality. Silveira, Ribeiro, Dornas, and Fernandes, 2019, Rev. Brasil. Biociênc., Porto Alegre, 16: 47–52, provided a record in the state of Minas Gerias, Brazil, and discussed the geographic and ecological range.
