Syntypes: ZMUC (2 specimens of which one is lost); ZMUC R11105 designated lectotype by Heyer, 1979, Smithson. Contrib. Zool., 301: 15. Type locality: "Maruim af Hygom", Sergipe, Brazil; corrected to "Cotinguibe (now Nossa Senhora do Socorro, 10° 52′ S, 37° 07′ W)" by museum records by Heyer, 2000, J. Herpetol., 34: 152, which is near Maruim, Sergipe, Brazil.

Comment

Heyer, 2000, J. Herpetol., 34: 150-153, reviewed the nomenclatural and taxonomic history of the nominal species, redescribed the lectotype, and posited that it represents a species of Leptodactylus currently known only from the type. Unassigned to species group by de Sá, Grant, Camargo, Heyer, Ponssa, and Stanley, 2014, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 9(Spec. Issue 1): 1–123, and who provided a summary of relevant literature (adult morphology, identification, and range) on pp. 88–89.
