Comment

For discussion see Zweifel, 1958, Am. Mus. Novit., 1896: 21 (as Nyctimystes montana)Menzies, 2006, Frogs New Guinea & Solomon Is.: 155-156, provided a brief account (as Nyctimystes cheesmanae) and suggested that more than one species may exist under this name. Brandon-Jones, Duckworth, Jenkins, Rylands, and Sarmiento, 2007, Zootaxa, 1541: 41-48, and Dubois, 2007, Zootaxa, 1550: 49-68, discussed the nomenclatural principles that prevent the name cheesmani from being emendable to cheesmanae. Kraus, 2012, Zootaxa, 3493: 1-26, redelimited the species and provided an account. Opinion 2447 of the ICZN (Anonymous, 2020, Bull. Zool. Nomencl., 77: 48–49: 47–48) noted that the original spelling of the species name is to be maintained.
