Pseudoeurycea exspectata Stuart, 1954, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 67: 159. Holotype: UMMZ 107999, by original designation. Type locality: "Broadleaf forest about 3 km. west of the aldea of Miramundo (about 7 air-line kilometers southeast of Jalapa), Department of Jalapa, Guatemala. Elevation, 2,525 m."

Distribution

Known only from the type locality, 3 km west of Miramundo in the highlands southwest of Jalapa, Departamento de Jalapa, Guatemala, 2525 m elevation.

See map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 587. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 91–92, compared this species with others from Central America and provided a map and photograph. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 280, provided a brief account, photograph, and map. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 626, provided an account, summarizing systematics, life history, population status (possibly extinct), and distribution (including a polygon map).
