Apalachicola, Chipola, Choctawhatchee/Pea, Econfina, and Ochlockonee drainages of southeastern Alabama, the Panhandle of Florida, and southwestern to north-central Georgia, USA.

First delimited (as Necturus cf. punctatus Apalachicola clade) by Chabarria, Murray, Moler, Bart, Crother, and Guyer, 2018, J. Zool. Syst. Evol. Res., 56: 352–363. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 485–486, provided an account, summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
