Alsodes gargola neuquensis Cei, 1976, Atti Soc. Ital. Sci. Nat. Mus. Civ. Stor. Nat. Milano, 117: 161. Holotype: IBAUNC 1963/1, by original designation. Type locality: "Volcanic tablelands of Lonco Luan, 1500 m west of Zapala, Neuquen (Northern Argentine Patagonia)", Argentina.

Comment
Considered a species (rather than a subspecies of Alsodes gargola) by Blotto, Nuñez, Basso, Úbeda, Wheeler, and Faivovich, 2013, Cladistics, 29: 123. Barrasso, Alcalde, Blotto, and Basso, 2016, Herpetol. J., 26: 21–31, described the larva in comparison with Alsodes gargola. Larval morphology and anatomy discussed by Dias, Vera Candioti, Sabbag, Colaço, Silva, Haddad, Carvalho-e-Silva, and Grant, 2021, J. Zool. Syst. Evol. Res., 59: 1297–1321.
