Alsodes valdiviensis Formas, Cuevas, and Brieva, 2002, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 115: 709. Holotype: IZUA 3202, by original designation; destroyed by fire on 3 December 2007. Type locality: "Cerro Mirador (40° 08′ S, 73° 40′ W; 1100 m altitude) 60 km W la Unión (by road) Provincia Valdivia, Región de Los Lagos" Chile.
Common Names
Pelada Mountain Spiny Chest Frog (Rabanal, Correa-Quezada, and Gargiulo, 2022, Rev. Latinoam. Herpetol., 5: 54).
Distribution
Cordillera Pelada in Nothofagus forest, Región de Los Ríos, and Isla Grande de Chiloé, Región de Los Lagos, Valdivia Province, Chile.

In the Alsodes monticola group according to the original publication. Cuevas and Formas, 2005, Ital. J. Zool., 72: 87–91, reported on the karyotype of Alsodes aff. valdiviensis. See Lobos, Vidal-Maldonado, Correa-Quezada, Labra-Lillo, Díaz-Páez, Charrier, Rabanal, Díaz-Vidal, and Tala, 2013, Anf. Chile Conserv. 1–104, for photograph, comments on conservation status, and range. See Charrier, 2019, Anf. Bosques Centro Sur y Patagonia de Chile: 126–129, for account (morphology, habitat, natural history) and polygon distribution map. Rabanal, Correa-Quezada, and Gargiulo, 2022, Rev. Latinoam. Herpetol., 5: 54–64, reported a specimen from Isla Grande de Chiloé, southern Chile.
