 Gutiérrez-Rodríguez, Salvi, Geffen, Gafny, and Martínez-Solano, 2014, Herpetol. J., 24:  261–265, reported on novel microsatellite loci with special reference to Discoglossus jeanneae and Discoglossus galganoi but discussed cross amplification with Latonia. Sorbelli, Azzarà, Cherin, Delfino, Roček, and Villa, 2025, J. Syst. Palaeontol., 23 (1:2554727): 1–39, discussed the fossil history and phylogenetis of the genus.
