In the Brachycephalus pernix group according to the original publication. Condez, Monteiro, and Haddad, 2017, Zootaxa, 4290: 395–400, suggested that this form requires taxonomic reassessment due to problems in the original diagnosis and description; see response from Pie, Ribeiro, and Bornschein, 2017, Zootaxa, 4350: 587–589. Advertisement call reported by Bornschein, Ribeiro, Rollo, Confetti, and Pie, 2018, PeerJ, 6 (e5273): 1–18. Teixeira, Ribeiro, Corrêa, Confetti, Pie, and Bornschein, 2018, Check List, 14: 1013–1016, provided the second known locality of the species.
