Brachycephalus guarani Clemente-Carvalho, Giaretta, Condez, Haddad, and Reis, 2012, Herpetologica, 68: 367. Holotype: CFBH 27233, by original designation. Type locality: "Morro Prumirim, municipality of Ubatuba, São Paulo, southeastern Brazil, approximately 922 m above sea level (23°20′48″S, 45°01′36″W, datum 1/4 SAD69)".

Tentatively assigned to the Brachycephalus ephippium group by Ribeiro, Bornschein, Belmonte-Lopes, Firkowski, Morato, and Pie, 2015, PeerJ, 3 (e1011): 1–35. Folly, Luna-Dias, Miguel, Ferreira, Machado, Lopes, and Pombal, 2023, Acta Zool., Stockholm, 104: 71–105, reviewed the osteology.
