Psyllophryne hermogenesi Giaretta and Sawaya, 1998, Copeia, 1998: 985. Holotype: ZUEC 9715, by original designation. Type locality: "Picinguaba (Parqua Estadual da Serra do Mar), at approximately 23° 26′ S; 44° 52′ W", Rio de Janeiro, southeastern Brazil.

Verdade, Rodrigues, Cassimiro, Pavan, Liou, and Lange, 2008, J. Herpetol., 42: 542–549, discussed life history, advertisement call, and range. Pereira, Candaten, Milani, Oliveira, Rocha, and Vrcibradic, 2010, Herpetol. Rev., 41: 506, and Oliveira, Oliveira, Hartmann, Silva, and Toledo, 2011, Check List, 7: 17–18, provided records for Paraná, Brazil, and commented on the range. Bornschein, Ribeiro, Teixeira, Belmonte-Lopes, Moraes, Corrêa, Maurício, Nadaline, and Pie, 2021, PeerJ, 9 (e10983): 1–42, reported that this species may only be diagnosed from Brachycephalus sulfuratus only by advertisement call or molecular markers.
