Eleutherodactylus anthrax Lynch, 2001, Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis. Nat., 25: 292. Holotype: ICN 41696, by original designation. Type locality: "COLOMBIA, Departamento de Caldas, Muncipio Norcasia (formerly part of Samaná), at campamento La Miel II, near Junction of quebrada Tasajos with Rio La Miel, Km 23 carretera La Victoria—Samaná, 700 m".

Lower cloud forest on both flanks of the valley of the Rio Magdalena in the departments of Antioquia, Caldas, Bolivar, and Santander, Colombia, 350 to 1200 m elevation.

In the Eleutherodactylus diastema group according to the original publication. Transferred to Diasporus by Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 47, on the basis of molecular data. Duarte-Cubides and Cala-Rosas, 2012, Check List, 8: 300-301, provided records from Antioquia and Santander, Colombia, and commented on the range. Jiménez-Rivillas, Vargas, Fang, Di Filippo, and Daza-R., 2013, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 8:1-4, reported on the advertisement call. See account, photograph, and dot map by Barrientos and Paz, 2017, Catal.
