Diasporus citrinobapheus Hertz, Hauenschild, Lotzkat, and Köhler, 2012, ZooKeys, 196: 27. Holotype: SMF 89814, by original designation. Type locality: "Quebrada Rasca (8.4851°N, 81.1727°W, 790 m elevation), near Paredón, Comarca Ngöbe-Buglé, western Panama, approximately 50 airline km NNW of the city of Santiago and 20 airline km N of Cañazas, Veraguas".

Distribution
Known from three localities on the Cordillera Central of western Panama: Cerro Negro (Parque Nacional Santa Fe, Veraguas), the type locality (near Paredon, Comarca Ngobe-Buglé), and from Willie Mazu (on the Paredon, Comarca Ngobe-Buglé/Chiriquí boundary), Panama.

Jiménez-Rivillas, Vargas, Fang, Di Filippo, and Daza-R., 2013, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 8: 1–4, reported on aspects of the advertisement call. García-Rodríguez, Arias, and Chaves, 2016, Neotropical Biodiversity, 2: 59–68, provided molecular, acoustic, and ecological evidence of the distinctiveness of this species from Diasporus tigrillo.
