Eleutherodactylus dixoni Lynch, 1991, Copeia, 1991: 1138. Replacement name for Tomodactylus albolabris Taylor, 1943, when that name is in competition with Microbatrachylus albolabris Taylor, 1940, which is now in Craugastor, obviating the need for a replacement name.

In the Eleutherodactylus (Syrrhophus) nitidus group of Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 223. In the Eleutherodactylus (Syrrhophus) longipes species series, Eleutherodactylus modestus species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 91, and of Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 132. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. Conserv., 15(e272): 1–35, provided key comparative characters (external morphology and advertisement call) for identification of members of their Eleutherodactylus nitidus group, as well as a molecular tree to place the species. In the Eleutherodactylus (Syrrhophus) nitidus clade of Hernández-Austria, García-Vázquez, Grünwald, and Parra-Olea, 2022, Syst.
