In the Eleutherodactylus auriculatus group according to the original publication. Removed from the synonymy of Eleutherodactylus varians by Hedges, Estrada, and Thomas, 1992, Herpetol. Monogr., 6: 67–70, and who described the call. Díaz and Cádiz, 2007, Herpetotropicos, Mérida, 3: 100–122, reported on the advertisement call.
