Eleutherodactylus (Euhyas) toa Estrada and Hedges, 1991, Caribb. J. Sci., 27: 140. Holotype: CARE 00438, by original designation. Type locality: "la cabeza del río Yarey, Yateras, Guantánamo, Cuba".

Elevations of 195 to 900 m in the region of the type locality (Yateras), Macizo de Sagua–Baracoa, Holguín and Guantánamo provinces, eastern Cuba.

Subgenus Euhyas, according to the original publication. In the Eleutherodactylus (Euhyas) ricordii group according to Lynch and Duellman, 1997, Univ. Kansas Mus. Nat. Hist. Spec. Publ., 23: 233. Díaz and Cádiz, 2007, Herpetotropicos, Mérida, 3: 100–122, reported on the advertisement call. In the Eleutherodactylus (Euhyas) luteolus species series, monotypic Eleutherodactylus toa species group of Hedges, Duellman, and Heinicke, 2008, Zootaxa, 1737: 73, and of Padial, Grant, and Frost, 2014, Zootaxa, 3825: 130.
