See Poynton and Broadley, 1985, Ann. Natal Mus., 26: 525-528, Channing, 2001, Amph. Cent. S. Afr.: 223-224, and Du Preez and Carruthers, 2009, Compl. Guide Frogs S. Afr.: 124-125. Mercurio, 2011, Amph. Malawi: 108-109, provided an account for Malawi. In the Breviceps mossambicus group of Nielsen, Daniels, Conradie, Heinicke, and Noonan, 2018, J. Biogeograph., 45: 2067–2079, who reported on molecular phylogenetics and biogeography. Marques, Ceríaco, Blackburn, and Bauer, 2018, Proc. California Acad. Sci., Ser. 4, 65 (Suppl. II): 82, provided a brief account for Angola. Baptista, Conradie, Vaz Pinto, and Branch, 2019, In Huntley, Russo, Lages, and Ferrand (eds.), Biodiversity in Angola: 255, suggested that this species probably extends into Angola adjacent to southwestern Zambia., although Nielsen, Conradie, Ceríaco, Bauer, Heinicke, Stanley, and Blackburn, 2020, ZooKeys, 979: 133–160, suggested that all Angolan records require confirmation. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 120–121, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. Buruwate and Lloyd-Jones, 2024, J. E. Afr. Nat. Hist., 113: 1–18, provided a record from the Niassa Special Reserve, northern Mozambique.
