Spelaeophryne methneri Ahl, 1924, Zool. Anz., 61: 99. Holotype: ZMB unnumbered according to the original publication; ZMB 27656, according Bauer, Günther, and Robeck, 1996, Mitt. Zool. Mus. Berlin, 72: 267 (not ZMB 2756 as reported by Parker, 1934, Monogr. Frogs Fam. Microhylidae: 183). Type locality: "Nangoma Höhle (Matumbi), Deutsch-Ost-Afrika" (= Nangoma Cave, Matumbi near Kilwa, Tanzania.
