Washington, 51: 192; This being BMN 1929.12.22.66 (reregistered 1947.2.19.20) according to museum records. Type locality: "Pakka, alt. 10,200 feet", Mount Kina Balu, Sabah, Malaysia. Synonymy by Inger, 1966, Fieldiana, Zool., 52: 102-103.

See identification table by Manthey and Grossmann, 1997, Amph. Rept. Südostasiens: 30, to compare this species with others in the Sunda Shelf region. Malkmus, Manthey, Vogel, Hoffmann, and Kosuch, 2002, Amph. Rept. Mount Kinabalu: 64-65, provided an account. Manthey and Grossmann, 1997, Amph. Rept. Südostasiens: 26, removed this taxon from the synonymy of Ansonia fuliginea where it had been placed by Inger, 1966, Fieldiana, Zool., 52: 102-103. Malkmus, Manthey, Vogel, Hoffmann, and Kosuch, 2002, Amph. Rept. Mount Kinabalu: 64, and Matsui, 2006, Curr. Herpetol., Kyoto, 25: 4, retained Ansonia altitudinis in the synonymy of Ansonia fuliginea without comment.
