Most similar to Ansonia leptopus according to the original publication. Sumarli, Grismer, Anuar, Muin, and Quah, 2015, Check List, 11(4, Art. 1679): 6, reported a specimen from the base of Mount Lawite, Terregganu, West Malaysia, and mentioned that they suspected that a previous record of Ansonia malayana from Mount Tebu probably applies to this species. Chan and Grismer, 2019, BMC Evol. Biol., 19(95): 3, suggested that the sequence divergence between this species and Ansonia leptopus is so low (below 3%) that they may be conspecific.
