Humid lowland and premontane Pacific forests of southwestern lowlands of Ecuador (Azuay, Cañar, and Guayas provinces), 57–670 m elevation.

Placed in the Atelopus longirostris group in the original publication. Coloma and Lötters, 1996, Herpetologica, 52: 66–70, reported on the tadpole. Lötters, 1996, Neotrop.
