Comment

In the Atelopus flavescens group of Lynch, 1993, Alytes, 11: 77–87. Lescure, 1974, Vie Milieu, Paris, Ser. C, Biol. Terr., 23: 125–141, discussed the status of this species and the former confusion about this name. Lescure and Marty, 2000, Collect. Patrimoines Nat., Paris, 45: 48–49, provided a brief account, including call description, and photo. Lötters, Haas, Schick, and Böhme, 2002, Salamandra, 38: 166, regarded Atelopus vermiculatus as only a possible synonym. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 166. Boistel, Lötters, and Blanc, 2005, in Rueda-Almonacid et al. (eds.), Ranas Arlequines: 122–124, provided a brief account, photograph, and map. Lescure, 1981, Amphibia-Reptilia, 2: 209–215, reported on larval morphology and call. Jorge, Ferrão, and Lima, 2020, Diversity, 12 (310): 7, presented phylogenetic evidence that Atelopus flavescens is imbedded within nominal Atelopus hoogmoedi, the implication being that Atelopus hoogmoedi is a species complex. Taucce, Costa-Campos, Carvalho, and Michalski, 2022, Eur. J. Taxon., 836: 96–130, regarded records of Atelopus flavescens from Amapá, Brazil, as only problematically assigned to Atelopus hoogmoedi
