Atelopus mono-hernandezii Ardila-Robayo, Osorno-Muñoz, and Ruiz-Carranza, 2002, Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis. Nat., 26: 134. Holotype: ICN 05527, by original designation. Type locality: "COLOMBIA, Departamento de Santander, Municipio de Virolín, Hacienda La Argentina, Sitio Buena Vista, flanco occidental Cordillera Oriental, ca. 6° 31′ latitud N, 73° 10′ longitud W de Greenwich, 2200 m".

Known only from the vicinity of the type locality on the western slope of the Cordillera Oriental (Hacienda La Argentina, Municipio de Virolín, Departamento de Santander, Colombia, 1700–2200 m elevation).
