Atelopus oxyrhynchus Boulenger, 1903, Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist., Ser. 7, 12: 554. Syntypes: BMNH (numerous specimens); BMNH 1947.2.14.66 (formerly 1903.10.30.15) designated lectotype by Rivero, 1974 "1972", Bol. Soc. Venezol. Cienc. Nat., 29: 601. Type locality: "Venezuela (Rio Albirregas [= Albarregas], [La] Culata, Sierra Nevada de Merida), at altitudes of 10,000 to 11,000 feet". Restricted to La Culata, 3000 m elevation, Mérida, Venezuela, by lectotype designation.
