Bufo tuberospinius (Yang, Liu, and Rao, 1996)
Torrentophryne tuberospinia Yang, Liu, and Rao, 1996, Zool. Res., Kunming, 17: 356. Holotype: KIZ 820645, by original designation. Type locality: "Dahaoping of Tengchong, Yunnan, . . . 1900 m", China.
Bufo tuberospinius — Frost, 2009, Amph. Spec. World, vers. 5.3. In recognition of the synonymy of Torrentophryne with Bufo by Frost, Grant, Faivovich, Bain, Haas, Haddad, de Sá, Channing, Wilkinson, Donnellan, Raxworthy, Campbell, Blotto, Moler, Drewes, Nussbaum, Lynch, Green, and Wheeler, 2006, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 297: 215, and the apparently lack of phylogenetic homogeneity of "Torrentophryne".
Bufo (Bufo) tuberospinius — Dubois and Bour, 2010, Zootaxa, 2447: 24.
English Names
None noted.
Distribution
Known definitely only from the type locality (Dahoaping of Tengchong, Yunnan, China, 1900 m elevation).
Comment
Removed from the synonym of Bufo burmanus by Yang, 2008, in Yang and Rao (ed.), Amph. Rept. Yunnan: 59, where it had been placed by Yang, Liu, and Rao, 1996, Zool. Res., Kunming, 17: 353-359 (according to Rao, Yang, and Wang, 1998, Russ. J. Herpetol., 5: 67). These authors seem to have disagreed implicitly or missed that Bufo burmanus was placed in the synonymy of Bufo pageoti by Dubois and Ohler, 1999, J. South Asian Nat. Hist., 4: 162. See brief accounts (as Torrentophryne tuberospinia) by Zhao and Yang, 1997, Amph. Rept. Hengduan Mountains Region: 76-77, and Yang, 2008, in Yang and Rao (ed.), Amph. Rept. Yunnan: 59-61. See comment under Bufo record regarding Torrentophryne. Not recognized by Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2012, Colored Atlas Chinese Amph. Distr., suggesting an implied synonymy with another member of the Torrentophryne clade.
