Melanophryniscus krauczuki Baldo and Basso, 2004, J. Herpetol., 38: 394. Holotype: MLP DB 744, by original designation. Type locality: "Ruta provincial number 3, 3.5 km southeast from its junction with Ruta nacional number 12, 27° 29′ 26.5″ S, 55° 39′ 58.3″ W, approximately 165 m elevation; Candelaria Department, Misiones Province, Argentina".

Distribution

Known only from southern Misiones, Argentina, as well as one record in adjacent Itapúa, Paraguay.

In the Melanophryniscus stelzneri group according to the original publication, where osteology, external adult and larval morphology, karyotype, and the advertisement call were described. Brusquetti, Baldo, and Motte, 2007, Check List, 3: 141-142, provided the first record for Paraguay and discussed the range. Weiler, Núñez, Airaldi, Lavilla, Peris, and Baldo, 2013, Anf. Paraguay: 36, provided a brief account, image, and dot map for Paraguay. Baldo, Vera Candioti, Haad, Kolenc, Borteiro, Pereyra, Zank, Colombo, Bornschein, Sisa, Brusquetti, Conte, Nogueira-Costa, Almeida-Santos, and Pie, 2014, Biol. J. Linn. Soc., 112: 417–441, reported on larval morphology.  Zank, Becker, Abadie, Baldo, and Maneyro, 2014, PLoS One, E 9(4: e94625): 1–11, provided modeled distribution maps for the species under climate change. Langone and Lavilla, 2024, Comun. Zool. Mus. Hist. Nat. Montevideo, 13: 20, provided the taxonomic literature including misidentifications.
