Melanophryniscus setiba Peloso, Faivovich, Grant, Gasparini, and Haddad, 2012, Am. Mus. Novit., 3762: 5. Holotype: CFBH 17036, by original designation. Type locality: "Parque Estadual Paulo César Vinha (20° 36′ 25″ S; 40° 25′ 01″ W, near sea level), approximately 1.5 km from the beach, restinga of Setiba, municipality of Guarapari, state of Espírito Santo, Brazil".

Known only from the type locality (Parque Estadual Paulo César Vinha, approximately 1.5 km from the beach, restinga of Setiba, municipality of Guarapari, state of Espírito Santo, Brazil).

Comment

Unnassigned to species group and possibly the sister taxon of all other Melanophryniscus, although a complete analysis of the genus remains to be accomplished. Langone and Lavilla, 2024, Comun. Zool. Mus. Hist. Nat. Montevideo, 13: 18–19, summarized the literature of the species.
