Comment

See Poynton and Broadley, 1988, Ann. Natal Mus., 29: 476–477, for brief account in which they mentioned that this species is most similar to Bufo kavangensis and Bufo vertebralis and noted why it could not be considered to be in the Bufo taitanus group. Considered a subspecies of Bufo taitanus by Tandy and Keith, 1972, in Blair (ed.), Evol. Genus Bufo: 156. See brief accounts by Channing, 2001, Amph. Cent. S. Afr.: 64, Pickersgill, 2007, Frog Search: 551–552, and Du Preez and Carruthers, 2009, Compl. Guide Frogs S. Afr.: 158. Mercurio, 2011, Amph. Malawi: 132, provided an account for Malawi. Baptista, Conradie, Vaz Pinto, and Branch, 2019, In Huntley, Russo, Lages, and Ferrand (eds.), Biodiversity in Angola: 256, suggested that this species probably extends into Angola adjacent to southwestern Zambia. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 78–79, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map.
