Comment
Removed from the synonymy of Poyntonophrynus hoeschi by Rödel, Becker, Buiswalelo, Conradie, and Channing, 2023, Salamandra, 59: 143 (who reported on comparative morphology and molecular markers as well as the advertisement call); Poynton and Broadley, 1988, Ann. Natal Mus., 29: 466-471, discussed the features of this nominal species and near relatives and had removed all obstacles to the synonymy of this nominal species with Bufo hoeschi although they did not formally do so. Subsequently placed in the synonymy of Bufo hoeschi by implication of Channing and Stuart, 1975, Brit. J. Herpetol., 5: 655–656. See comment under Poyntonophrynus hoeschi for access to literature addressing this taxon when it was considered part of that species.
