Formerly confused with Rhinella fissipes and Rhinella leptoscelis, according to the original publication, where comparative morphology, osteology, molecular markers, placement in the Rhinella veraguensis group, distribution (including records requiring genetic confirmation), and natural history were detailed. Gómez-Murillo and Quinteros-Muñoz, 2026, Acta Zool. Lilloana, 70: 217–221, provided a dot map of the distribution in Bolivia as well as providing a lower elevational record from Villa Tunari (16º 97’ S/65º 41’ W), 307 m elevation, Chapare Province, Cochabamba, Bolivia.
