Type locality: "Río Abiseo Valley, collected within a radius of 1 km around Jucusbamba (7°53′17.002″ S, 77°11′49.009″ W, WGS84 GPS coordinates, not to be confused with Jucusbamba in Departamento La Libertad) at ca. 1830 m a.s.l., Río Abiseo National Park, Departamento San Martín, Peru". Known from seven montane forest localities between 1788 and 2305 m elevation in Departamentos Amazonas (Provinces of Bongara and Bagua) and San Martín (Province of Mariscal Cáceres), Peru.

In the Rhinella festae group according to the original publication, where the morphology of this species was compared in detail to other members of the group.
