Platymantis spelaeus Brown and Alcala, 1982, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 95: 386. Holotype: CAS 153469, by original designation. Type locality: "limestone cave, Tiyabanan Barrio, Basay, southern Negros Oriental, Philippines".

Platymantis spelaea — Günther, 1999, Mitt. Mus. Naturkd. Berlin, Zool., 75: 327-328, by implication. Incorrect subsequent spelling according to Kraus and Allison, 2007, Zootaxa, 1485: 29-30.
