Distribution
Known from two populations in the Amazon basin of southeastern Ecuador: (1) Sopladora population at elevations between 1155 and 1293 m on the eastern flank of the Paute river basin, along the northeastern border of Azuay and Morona Santiago Provinces; (2) San Antonio parish (1022 meters), Limón Indanza canton, province of Morona Santiago, Cordillera del Cóndor.

The sister taxon of Excidobates mysteriosus, according to the original publication, where comparative morphology, mtDNA markers, a,advertisement call, nd natural history were detailed.
