Comment
Synonymy with Dendrobates by Jungfer, Lötters, and Jörgens, 2000, Herpetofauna, Weinstadt, 22: 11. This synonymy considered tentative by Daly, Garraffo, Spande, Clark, Ma, and Ziffer, 2003, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, 100: 11095. Grant, Frost, Caldwell, Gagliardo, Haddad, Kok, Means, Noonan, Schargel, and Wheeler, 2006, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 299: 170, redelimited the genus and discussed the rational behind the recognition of this taxon. Twomey and Brown, 2008, Herpetologica, 64: 135, suggested that Adelphobates is the sister taxon of Minyobates (the older name) and that the two could conveniently be synonymized. Santos, Coloma, Summers, Caldwell, Ree, and Cannatella, 2009, PLoS Biol., 7(3: e1000056): 0001-0014, disputed the separation from Dendrobates, but did not falsify the phylogenetic structure upon which this taxonomy was based. Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543-583, in their molecular study, confirmed the earlier result and adopted the same taxonomy. Brown, Twomey, Amézquita, Souza, Caldwell, Lötters, von May, Melo-Sampaio, Mejía-Vargas, Pérez-Peña, Pepper, Poelman, Sanchez-Rodriguez, and Summers, 2011, Zootaxa, 3083: 10, rejected this synonymy.
