Known only from three localities: the Reserva Biológica Augusto Ruschi, Município de Santa Teresa, in Município de Domingos Martins, and in the Área de Proteção Ambiental do Goiapaba-Açu, Município de Fundão, all in the Atlantic Forest of the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil

Previously confused with Fritziana goeldii according to the original publication. Lacerda, Zocca, Cafofo, Araújo, Beard, Toledo, and Ferreira, 2023, Salamandra, 59: 275–283, reported on vocalization.
