Hyla carvalhoi Peixoto, 1981, Rev. Brasil. Biol., 41: 515. Holotype: Given in the original publication in error as EI 6501, according to Peixoto and Gomes, 2007, Rev. Brasil. Zool., 24: 723, who corrected this to EI 5601. Type locality: "Parque Nacional da Serra dos Órgãos, Teresópolis, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil".

Distribution
Known from the type locality in the Parque Nacional da Serra dos Órgãos, Teresópolis, and Santa Maria Madalena, Parque Estadual do Desengano, state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Comment
In the Hyla circumdata group, according to the original publication. Napoli, 2002, Herpetol. Rev., 33: 220, provided the first record away from the type locality and commented on the range. In the Bokermannohyla circumdata group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 82-83. Carvalho, Giaretta, and Magrini, 2012, Zootaxa, 3321: 37-55, reported on advertisement call structure.
